A resort booking does not explain the full itinerary. Excursions inland, visits to family and longer stays can affect advice. Discuss mosquito exposure, water safety and the availability of medical help near your accommodation.
Current notice from the source: Oropouche virus disease outbreak. Re-check the latest guidance shortly before you leave Malta.
Malaria risk in Dominican Republic is limited and uneven, so the exact places you visit matter more than the country name.
Dominican Republic has no local yellow fever risk listed, but it checks certificates for some arrivals — relevant if your route from Malta passes through Africa or South America.
Rabies vaccination is usually discussed for travellers with likely animal contact, adventurous or remote trips, or limited access to urgent care.
Cholera vaccine is reserved for particular situations, such as humanitarian work or very limited access to safe water.
Avoid swimming or wading in fresh water where schistosomiasis is reported.
Day-biting mosquitoes can spread infections such as dengue, so bite avoidance is worthwhile throughout the trip.
- Include off-resort day trips and overnight stays.
- Use bite protection even in developed tourist areas.
- Check insurance arrangements before departure.
